French silvered bronze – La Comete sculpture. Modelled as a female comet flying over clouds. Mounted on a Belgian Black marble base. One of the most famous, iconic and most desirable Art Deco statues ever made. Signed in the bronze Guiraude Riviere and stamped Etling. One of these same statues was originally shown in the reception of the Chrysler Building in New York from 1930 – 1942: a similar example was sold at Sothebys, New York in 2014 for $ 60,000 USD. There is also one shown in the Victor Arwas book and the Catley book on page 177. 23 inches (58.5cm) wide, 20.5 inches (52cm) high, 5.5 inches (14cm) deep. In very good condition. SOLD!!!
