Truly stunning original French art deco very heavy! wrought iron and bronze (Fer forge) double doors. Made up of 4 deer panels, two each sandwiching a ribbed glass panel. The exact same leaping deer design can be viewed in the Edgar Brandt Schiffer book shown below the fire screen and the hammered detailing is a Brandt signature. It is possible the stamp is covered in the gilt patina. See the images below showing a Brandt fire screen which is the same design. Made in the 1920s/30s and genuine works of art. Overall condition very good/solid with later gold paint (marked/chipped in places) glazed with reeded/ribbed glass (1 door only). A premier metalsmith in the early 20th century in France, EDGAR BRANDT designed and fabricated some of the most beautiful architectural and decorative ironwork of his age. Lyrical gates, doors, and tables, including his most famous screen, L’Oasis, appeared at the seminal 1925 Exposition des Arts Decoratifs, in Paris, which gave the name Art Deco to the new style of designs. Combining motifs from ancient Egypt and classical Greek sources, floral and animals forms, and machine-inspired geometric designs, Brandt created items that became synonymous with the most lavish designs of the time. His workshop and showroom in Paris, along with a gallery that featured works by other contemporary artist-craftsmen, produced luxury goods and private commissions. Grilles, fire screens, doors, tables, andirons, vessels and lighting devices were all exquisitely executed. They each measure 79 inches (201cm) high X 32.5 inches (83cm) wide x 2 = total width 65 inches (165cm). The doors are double sided and panels open out each side with additional hinges to fit glass panes (held by a screw in internal frame). Can of course use for their intended purpose or as 4 wall panels, mirrors, room dividers and still have door frames to use as doors. Consider in very good solid salvaged condition with imperfections, can touch up in gold paint. Whichever way decide to go, an amazing piece that will add plenty of style and character to any space however you use them. Possibly stunning period wall art pieces which can also be used as doors. I bought these doors for my new house (A blog will be added about them once they are fitted) but I could be convinced to sell at the right price. SOLD
